 about

Brian has lived in Downpatrick for most of his life having in his early years travelled and worked in Africa, Asia and England.  He studied Art and Design at St Joseph’s and St Mary’s Colleges of Education, Belfast during the seventies. Choosing art as a specialist subject was not because of a burning ambition to teach the subject but rather a safe bet for getting a job given that there was a shortage of art teachers at the time.

After many years as Head of Department in the local High School he left the teaching profession to take up an Education Officer post with the South Eastern Education & Library Board.

However, over time he began to miss the world of art and design, especially helping the children to realise their innate creative potential.  The answer was to resume painting and that is what he has been doing ever since.  He kept up his teaching interest as a tutor with Down Arts Centre.  Along the way he has had six “one man shows”, including Hillsborough Castle and has participated in many group exhibitions.

He has painted in watercolour, acrylic, pastel and oils.  His subject matter includes landscapes, seascapes, animals, boats, still life and buildings.
